A close coupled toilet has the cistern sitting directly on top of the pan, bolted to it as one unit. It is the most common toilet in Irish homes, and the simplest to fit — the cistern comes with the toilet, so there is no frame to build in and no concealed cistern to buy.
Close coupled toilets differ in how the base is finished, and it makes a real difference to cleaning:
If cleaning around the toilet is the thing that annoys you, go fully shrouded.
Most models here are rimless — there is no hidden rim channel where limescale and bacteria collect, so water is directed around the bowl instead. A wipe round is genuinely enough.
Check the projection (how far the pan sticks out from the wall) and the waste outlet position — horizontal or vertical — before ordering. Tight bathroom? See our short projection toilets. Want a higher seat? See comfort height toilets, with a 44 cm seat height.
