This is the 20 mm outdoor version of Architeq Grey — the same mid-grey concrete face as the indoor 8 mm tile, but two and a half times thicker and rated R11 instead of R10. The extra body is what lets it be laid dry on pedestals or on a gravel bed rather than bonded to a screed, which is how most Irish patios and balconies get finished.
Choosing this paving. R11 is the rating you want underfoot outdoors in Irish weather — it holds grip when wet in a way an 8 mm R10 floor tile does not, and it is the reason this plate, not the indoor tile, belongs on a patio, path or balcony. It is frost resistant and coloured through the body, so a chipped corner does not show a pale core. Because it matches the indoor Architeq Grey face, the usual specification is the 8 mm tile inside and this plate outside, so a kitchen floor reads as continuing through the patio doors. Note the box maths differ from the indoor tile: a box covers only 0.71 m² and weighs 29.97 kg, so a 15 m² patio is around 22 boxes once you allow for cuts. Dry-lay a few plates first and mix across boxes — shade varies between batches.
